Bishop Julius Katoi Kalu, born on January 5, 1953, dedicated his life to education and service. With a passion for learning and a desire to serve, Julius joined the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) in 1973, working as an educator until 1987. He pursued higher education at St. Paul University from 1981 to 1983. During this time, Bishop Julius Katoi Kalu answered a higher calling and was ordained in 1983, solidifying his dedication to the spiritual path.
His unwavering commitment to his faith led him to pursue theological studies at the Episcopal Divinity School from 1987 to 1989. Following his studies, he became an integral part of the Mombasa Memorial Cathedral, serving the congregation from 1989 to 1993. Recognized for his leadership and devotion, he was elected as the Bishop of Mombasa in January 1994.
He played a vital role in the formation of the Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics (CICC) Trust in 1997, becoming one of its esteemed founder members. After a long and illustrious career, He retired in January 2018, leaving a lasting impact on the religious landscape and inspiring others through his faith, compassion, and service.
