Promoting Unity of Purpose Among PVE Actors – A brief Commentary By Dorcas Njoki Kariuki
The field of Preventing Violent Extremism has a large number of actors with each actor working tirelessly to engage the community as much as they can. The only problem has been that actors were not synergising their efforts in order to bring the desired effect. Complementing each other’s efforts could not be felt thus it looked like actors were competing with each other.
The review of the Mombasa County Action Plan was done and this brought more actors on board not only for buy-in but for their full participation. The Mombasa County Action Plan (MCAP) presented an opportunity for actors to support and engage each other; even while working independently.
The MCAP has ensured that partners understand how their various initiatives even at institution level are working towards ensuring a safe and secure environment. The actors have consistently supported the implementation of the MCAP and this has been seen through the reports that are being submitted. Importantly, is the joint initiatives that actors have been undertaking together along priority pillars as well as initiatives of interest.
